The monsoon is not weather in India; it is a season of the soul. In the city, rain is an inconvenience, a disruption of schedules. In the hills, it is the master sculptor of the landscape.
We built our Monsoon Immersion retreat because the rain forces us to wait. You cannot rush a walk when the clouds descend. You must sit on the veranda, watch the mist rise from the valley, and drink tea.
There is a beautiful grammar to the rains—the steady drumming on clay tiles, the rich smell of wet earth, the deep green of the foliage. It teaches us that some things cannot be optimized. They must simply be lived through.
